So how did I end up here?
Since an early age I have been interested in health, natural remedies, and holistic wellness. I’m a former vegetarian that used to eat less than optimal foods. Can you say soy nuggets and mock meats?! I grew up eating your typical SAD (standard American diet); highly processed inflammatory wanna be foods, and low in nutrient density. At the early age of 17 I started to have a lot of digestive issues that were very painful, scary, and would take a major toll on me both physically and mentally. I would get these very painful, and debilitating attacks in my upper stomach area no matter what I ate. After going to the emergency and seeing doctors I never got a proper diagnosis of the cause or a plan of action on how to fix it. I was told it was gastritis and that it was no big deal. I was told it was common and that it would go away; no need to really do anything. Yeah right! When I turned 20 I decided to go vegetarian and started to shop at natural food stores. At this times I ate a little “healthier” than most people, used some natural products but I was still unhealthy in so many ways. I thought my vegetarian diet was healthy, but when I look back now I know I was not eating optimally. I wasn’t getting the proper nutrition, or care my body, mind, and spirit needed. I ate processed foods, was dehydrated, was a workaholic, I drank alcohol/ partied, was stressed out, and had hidden gut infections.
At 21 I had the worst gallbladder attack of my life (I did’t know that’s what these attacks were at the time) and had to have an emergency Cholecystectomy (gallbladder removal). I had to be hospitalized for 8 days for Pancreatitis at the same time. The doctors said I came close to dying. Little did I know I was on the path to more health issues years later on. Mind you the doctors never mentioned how to care for myself post surgery. Eight years later I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease. I had developed moderate to severe Ulcerative Colitis a form of IBD (Inflammatory Bowel Disease). This is when my health really took a turn for the worst. I was a very sick girl and headed for a long journey to recovery. I had horrible digestive issues (chronic inflammation of the colon) that were extremely debilitating. I experienced severe bloating, intense cramping, stomach aches, bloody stools, chronic diarrhea that was unpredictable, my energy would tank, a bout of Peripheral Arthritis in the knees and ankles, weight gain, chronic cystic acne, anxiety, mild depression, hormonal imbalances, and had no menstrual cycle for a couple of years. I saw every kind of G.I doctor, specialists, nautropaths, a spiritual healer, a nutritionist, and chiropractors. I saw what felt like every kind of practitioner out there. I still wasn’t getting better after seeing all these people, trying different modalities, and buying all the supplements. Hopelessness definitely started to creep in but I knew that my body had the innate power to heal so I soldiered on to dig deep and research all I could to heal myself.
I came across a a few books and some resources on a diet that made a lot of sense to me so I began to follow a very extreme elimination diet. It is a diet used to reduce inflammation in the body. At this point I decided to give up vegetarianism since it was not serving me. I began to follow more of a Paleo diet after the extreme elimination protocol. I also started to learn a lot about autoimmune dis-eases, optimal digestion, and the power of REAL FOODS. Healing my body was hard work and took a time but I did start to heal and get better. I couldn’t believe how much I was healing just from changing my nutrition. I realized that changing my diet and eating REAL FOOD was what dramatically turned my health around. I was finally starting to see real results. After concentrating on my nurition for a long time I started to hit a plateau. I later worked with an amazing Holistic Nutritionist that got me on a supplement protocol, and also had me work on lifestyle changes. I later worked with a functional doctor to get testing done, and healed my hidden gut infections.
After years of regaining my health back, spending a lot of money, and time healing I realized I wanted to help other people get real solutions to their health issues. Better yet I wanted to help others avoid having to go through what I did. It’s all about taking care of ourselves right now to maintain balance and harmony in the mind, body, and spirit; not waiting for things to go wrong then trying to fix it once there’s an imbalance. Sure you can heal from illness but why even go there in the first place? It’s like that saying, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”. Things happen for a reason and I now know that my own health challenges would allow me to help others in the future. I knew I wanted to get real training to be able to work in the health and wellness space but had not found the right path yet. I was searching for a program that resonated with me, my philosophy, and approach.
I later found the NTA and loved their philosophy of bio individuality + REAL FOOD. They believe food is a foundational therapy for our bodies to heal, thrive, and function optimally. It’s a philosophy that I believe in 100% and have put to the test in my own life. It was like a match made in heaven! I later graduated top of my class as an FNTP. I now take clients, and continue to further my education daily regarding all things health and wellness. I continually stay on top of the new emerging data, and research to bring the latest knowledge to my clients. I am committed to helping others find balance, and support their unique path to healthier lives.
